About this session

From the start of our 2021 Spring Elections, we were faced with an extended cyber attack that stopped our website (brunelstudents.com) functioning specifically during the voting period. We originally wanted to have voting occur over one day (Thursday), but we had to extend into the Friday with the results being Friday Night.

You can read the full timeline here on our website but it was certainly one of the most challenging couple of days that I've ever done at a Student Union .

We'll look at:

  • How can you clarify your message during a crisis?
  • What conspiracy theories were shared during this time?
  • What did we get wrong?
  • What plans do we have for our Autumn Elections and Spring 2022?

Attendees will learn:

  • How best to "risk" assess something that will impact your reputation, rather than health
  • A story about dealing with an unexpected situation
  • A starting point for reflection about the culture surrounding elections

This session is aimed at people with no or limited knowledge/experience of the topic.
