Many students' unions have a visual rebrand in their long-term plan, but often it's put off - whether due to cost, the complications of external agency supplier relationships, or the classic case of being too busy with day-to-day tasks!
In this talk, a creative agency that began life as a marketing team in a sector-leading SU will explain why this is a key time for SUs to rebrand, and why it’s never too early to start thinking about undertaking a rebrand project.
We’ll cover case studies with pre- and post-rebrand examples, how to deal with creative freelancer costs, and the specifics of effective SU visual identity, as well as touching on best practice for SU design teams. You’ll come away understanding how to stand out on campus, make your strategy relatable and recognizable to your students, and drive revenue and engagement.
A little about the speaker: I worked for seven years in a top students' union, four of them as a marketing coordinator and copywriter, developing/implementing the SU's new brand and driving revenue and engagement with innovative campaigns. Our team was sector-leading in its organisation and output - 'be creative' was our mantra, and it got results. My agency Advocate Branding is comprised of myself and a team of ex-designers from that same department.
Our mission is to help SUs grow and better engage the youth market in an increasingly competitive HE environment; firstly by providing dynamic, modern branding solutions to turn them into the heart of their campus, and secondly by providing flexible and collaborative support on any other design, content and creative work.
