About this session

"In the Summer of 2020 UCLan Students’ Union asked one big question: ‘Why does Freshers need to start at Freshers?’ In an attempt to move beyond Facebook Groups and DMs, we wanted to explore an online environment where students could meet and discover other students with similar interests, even before they started at University. Given the circumstances in 2020, they needed all the help they could get and we were on a mission to provide it.

Hear how this led to a partnership with a new social connections App, Umii, After 1,000s of student connections and a successful evaluation, we to share their journey to reimagine how students can connect, build friendships and reduce loneness even before they step foot inside a Students’ Union building.

Attendees will learn:

  • To build confidence to develop stronger partnerships with digital providers.
  • To review and consider the Freshers/Welcome experience and how digital interventions can build social connections.
  • To consider the importance of insight and evaluation in service/product design.

This session is suitable for people with no or limited knowledge/experience of the topic.
